CELEBRATION OF PRODUCTIVITY WEEK AT TUTICORIN PORT TRUST
Productivity week was celebrated in
Tuticorin Port from 12.2.08 to 18.2.08 and Productivity day was observed on
12.2.08. The week long celebrations were inaugurated by Dy.CPT on 12.2.08. The
inaugural function was attended by the staff of Tuticorin Port, CHLP and
representatives of User Organisation and representatives of Trade Unions.
The welcome address was given by Shri T.S. Ashok Kumar, DTM highlighting the various events planned for the week long productivity week celebration. TM presided over the function and stressed the need for continual improvement of productivity to attract more volume of cargo to Tuticorin Port Trust. In his special address Dy.CPT highlighting the need to be productive exhorted co-operation of all stakeholders for continual improvement. He also welcomed innovative ideas for enhancing productivity. He also cited the quality circle in many industries which has created good work ethnic and flam spirit as need as good ideas for improvement on the work area and cost reduction. He suggested this can be adopted in TPT. Deputy conservator and Chief Mechanical Engineer offered their felicitation on the theme productivity.
As a part of the celebration, Eloqution and Essay competitions were conducted on 13 & 14.2. 08 on the theme “ Productivity Improvement in Ports”. A workshop on productivity on the themes of “Computerisation in productivity, Equipment productivity, Human resources in Productivity and labour productivity were conducted on 15.2.08. Shri S. Sudalaiyandi, System Analysist highlighted the impact of computers on productivity. He also explained the implementation on first phase of the Port Community System in TPT for improvement of business process. Shri T.S. Ashok Kumar, DTM highlighted the importance of human resources in productivity and explained the change management process. Shri M.S. Tajudeen, President of TSA made a specific mention about the need to reduce the idle time and the representatives of TPT/CHLP unions highlighted various issues for enhancement of productivity. A very interesting Pattimanram on the theme “URPATHITHIRAN PERKKATHIRKKU karanam ' NIRVAGA THIRAMAYA // THOLILALAR ULAIPPA ' was conducted in which Shri Oliver Fdo, Wharf Superintendent, Tuticorin Port Trust, was the moderator and 4 professional speakers participated in the pattimantam. The function was well attended.
The valedictory function of the Productivity week celebration was held on 18.2.08. Shri V. Sambathkumar welcomed the gathering. Traffic Manager, TPT presided over the function and Shri A. Subbiah, Dy.Chairman, Tuticorin Port Trust was the Chief Guest and distributed prizes to the winners of Essay and Eloqution competition.
In his key note address, the Dy. Chairman, Port Trust exphasized the need for continued improvement in Productivity at the Port to attract more volume of cargo through this Port.
