Productivity Week Celebrations

In Tuticorin Port Trust, the productivity week is celebrated every year during the period from 12th February to 18th February religiously. The week long celebration of the productivity week during the current year is detailed below:

On 12.2.09 Productivity day was observed with the Productivity week inauguration held at 11:00 hours in the Port Main conference hall. The Dy. Chairman of the Port in his key note address insisted on bringing improvement in the vessel operation with reference to pre-berthing detention, idle time of vessel at berth and TRT. Dy. Conservator, Capt. John Moni and Shri Sathis Honnakatte, Chief Mechanical Engineer spoke on the occasion.

On 13.02.2009 a slogan competition and essay writing competition on the title “Productivity in Ports with Safety” were conducted. The employees of Port Trust & TPT/CHLP participated.

On 16.02.2009 an elocution competition on the title 'Productivity in Ports with Safety' was conducted. Winners of the competition awarded with I, II and III prizes for their valuable suggestions for improving productivity in the Port and the participants were awarded with consolation prizes for their participation.

On 17.02.2009 a full day seminar on 'Productivity' was conducted. Eminent speakers like Shri R. Muthu Manoharan, Vice President, Fertilizer Business of M/S SPIC Ltd., Sri T. Velshankar of M/S P.S.T.S logistics Ltd, Tuticorin and President, Tuticorin Custom Agents Association and Sri C.karathikeya Prabhu of M/S. DSA and Treasurer, Tuticorin Stevedores Association, Sri. J.P. Joe Villavarayar of M/s. Villavarayar & Sons and President, Tuticorin Ship Agents Association and Sri. Edwin Samuel of M/S. Pearl Shipping Agencies, Tuticorin from outside delivered a speech. Port users & employees of the Port participated in large numbers in the seminar and gave valuable suggestions to improve productivity.

On 21.02.2009 the Valedictory celebration of the Productivity week was held. The meeting was presided over by the Dy. CPT Sri A. Subbiah, IAS and Sri C. J. Rao, Chairman of Tuticorin Port Trust distributed prizes. Trustees Smt. Lingammal and Sri Russel also spoke on the occasion of valedictory. In his concluding address Chairman emphasized that the workforce in Tuticorin Port is capable of better performance on the trot and hoped that the Port will definitely over come the stress which had engulfed the world due to the global recession.

The week long celebration thus came to an end but the objective of attaining higher level of productivity is carried on by every one in the Port as a never ending process.
